Average position in Google Ads is a metric that measures the average position of your ad on the search engine results page (SERP) when it’s served. It indicates the typical spot you’re getting for your ads. The average position value is calculated by the formula of (sum of ad positions) / (number of impressions). For example, if your ad appears 5 times in the second position and 2 times in the fourth, your Average Position would be (5*2 + 2*4) / 7 = 3.
